The story.
We found our hearts in Simanya
Simanya is a village that forms part of Ukwangali, a tribal Kingdom of the Kavango people. This is a place where time took a break and where the local people still use donkeys and oxen for transport and farming and where Mangetti and Mahango are grinded to form part of the staple diet.
It is hard to say what inspired us to make this bold move. For us it felt like destiny, our calling. For you to understand we will explain it as follow.
Simanya and the whole of Kavango West cannot exist without the mighty Okavango River, 100 meters wide, defining the eastern and northeastern border with Angola. This river is the provider of life for most people and the anchor for their existence. The same goes for the wildlife that lives in and off the river. This is the natural environment for crocodile and hippo together with a multitude of fish species, most notably the Tiger Fish, a ferocious fighter to be reconned with.
At least 300 bird species turned this region into a birder’s paradise, that is also home to Namibia’s largest forests of Mangetti, Zambezi Teak, Leadwood, Ficus and Acacia trees.
Simanya is a true showcase of people interacting with nature. Simanya is honestly Africa.
